Climat:L’interpellation d’Ali Bongo Ondimba
« The conference that starts today in Glasgow has seen one vital word too often ignored. It is a word without which the hopes and expectations surrounding the event cannot be met, and that word is Africa.
Achieving global net zero emissions requires Africa’s natural ecosystems that suck in carbon to be protected and allowed to thrive. The forests, the savannahs, the mangroves and the coral reefs of my continent together form a critical life-support system for the world at large.
Yet the importance of these ecosystems, and the equitable financial mechanism needed to secure them, has not been given the priority it must if Cop26 is to succeed.
Take the country of which I am president, the central African state ».
